POTSDAM, N.Y. – Junior Delaney McNinch gave Union an early lead less than a minute into play at Hantz Turf Field, but Clarkson found an equalizer in the second half as the Union College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon.
Union applied instant pressure and earned a corner just 16 seconds after kickoff. Senior Vanessa Jorgensen swung a right-footed cross onto the head of Senior Anne Pearl, whose shot struck the right post. The rebound fell perfectly for McNinch, who headed the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.
Jorgensen had an opportunity to double Union's lead from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, but Clarkson goalkeeper Isabelle Wood made the save to keep it a one-goal game.
Clarkson responded quickly after halftime, as Julia Tylar scored on the Golden Knights' first chance just two minutes into the second half.
Union controlled much of the play recording 7 shots on net to Clarkson's 4.
Junior goalkeeper Maya Koster played the full 90 minutes for Union, making three saves to preserve the 1-1 draw.
The Garnet Chargers continue Liberty League play at home on Wednesday, hosting Bard for 7:00 pm kickoff.
