SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College men's tennis team took home the inaugural Garnet Cup with a pair of victories on Saturday at the Union Tennis Courts, knocking off Manhattanville University by a 6-1 score to start the day before sweeping SUNY Oneonta, 7-0, to cap the afternoon.

Ten different Garnet Chargers had at least one win on the day, with seven players posting an undefeated day and nine players winning on both the singles and doubles courts. Junior Shreyas Kode and senior Christian Crowder led Union (3-0) with three wins apiece on Saturday.

Union 6, Manhattanville 1
Union started the day with a 6-1 win over Manhattanville, sweeping all three doubles matches and taking five of six singles contests. Junior Daniel Saxe, sophomore Arhan Gupta and first-year Simon Philip all had two wins to lead the team to the victory.

Saxe lost two combined games in his two matches, teaming with Crowder for a 6-1 win at third doubles before pulling out a 6-1, 6-0 fourth-singles victory over Sami Badre-Hume. Gupta and sophomore Jesus Sosa finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at the top flight, following soon after a 6-2 win at second doubles by Philip and sophomore Vivaan Gupta.

Kode matched Saxe by losing only one game at fifth singles, nearly sweeping Robert Zomer by a 6-1, 6-0 score. A. Gupta earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Elouan Charretteur at second singles and Philip took down Derwin Guzman, 6-3, 6-0, to help finish off the win. First-year Reilly Fowles earned the team's final win of the morning, besting Nicholas Gervasi by a 6-1, 6-3 score.

Union 7, SUNY Oneonta 0
Union finished off the afternoon with a 7-0 win over SUNY Oneonta, taking all six singles matches and two-of-three doubles matches to earn the hardware. Crowder, Kode and first-year Alain Uzelac all had two wins each and combined to win four points for the home team.

After Oneonta earned a win a first doubles, Union clawed back with wins at the bottom two flights to earn the opening point. Crowder and Fowles took down Seth Cheung and Ryan Geller, 6-3, to even doubles play, before Kode and Uzelac delivered the point with a 7-5 win over Peter Pitaleff and Jaden Ritterman.

The Garnet Chargers surged forward into singles play, sweeping the six matches. Sosa and Kode battled hard at the top two flights, both overcoming first-set defeats to win in supertiebreakers. Sosa dropped a 6-1 opening frame but bested Chris Chippari, 6-3 in the second and 10-1 in the breaker, at first singles. Kode lost the first set 6-3 to William Schmid but came back for a 6-4 second-set win and a 10-8 supertiebreaker victory at second singles.
