Vytopilova's Five-Point Day Paces Field Hockey at Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Amy Vytopilova recorded a game-high five points while junior Maddie Greco and first-year Ellie Innes both scored twice to lead the Union College field hockey team to a commanding 8-1 victory over SUNY Morrisville in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Drake Field.

Vytopilova almost doubled her career points total in one game, scoring two goals and adding an assist for a game-high five points. Greco and Innes both scored two goals as well, as the trio combined for six of the team's eight scores on the afternoon.

Greco opened the scoring 4:14 into the contest, netting her first of the season with an unassisted tally. Despite outshooting Morrisville by a 15-5 margin, Union almost finished the period with the same margin until junior Reese Fendelet scored her second of the year with four seconds left. Vytopilova made it a 3-0 lead with the only goal of the second stanza off a pass from junior Rachel Ostiguy, and the pair teamed up again 94 seconds into the third period to put the visitors up by four.

Following a Morrisville goal, Union came back with the final four scores of the evening. Sophomore Maggie Monaghan regained the four-goal edge in the 37th minute, followed by Greco finishing off her 10th career multi-goal game with 10:42 left in the fourth. Innes put an exclamation point on the evening with the first two goals of her collegiate career, scoring her first on classmate Katelyn Birnbaum's first collegiate assist in the 58th minute and then scoring again just over 90 seconds later to cap off the win.

All three goalies got into the game for Union on the afternoon. Sophomore Tess Parker earned the start and stopped all five shots she faced in the opening period, while senior Sophie Brady followed with a scoreless second stanza. Junior Marion Stuntz made four stops and allowed one goal over the final 30 minutes of action.

Union finished the game with a decisive 40-12 edge in shots and doubled up Morrisville in penalty corners, 10-5.

Union will return to action tomorrow, when the Garnet Chargers host Russell Sage College in a non-conference matchup at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
