Baseball Falls 15-3 to Wisconsin-La Crosse

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Union College baseball team fell 15-3 in seven innings against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at Northeast Regional Park Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Will Kelly, first-year Evan Lagemann, and sophomore Dylan Swarts all had multiple hits for the Garnet Chargers (4-6), and while La Crosse (5-3) only outhit Union by two, its five innings with multiple runs sealed Union's fate.

The Eagles scored the first seven runs of the game on seven hits, three of which went for extra bases.

In the bottom of the third, Union (4-6) worked the bases loaded with no outs, squaring up La Crosse's starter Logan Zickert for a pair of hits and a walk. Senior Cooper Ames got the Garnet Chargers on the board with a sacrifice fly, scoring Kelly. Lagemann drove in another run with two outs for his second of three hits on the day.

A pair of infield hits in the bottom of the fifth helped Union get on the board again, cutting La Crosse's lead to 9-3. Lagemann legged out a ground ball to third base for his third single of the game. He has four multi-hit games through his first 10 starts this season. The Glen Rock, N.J. native reached third base after Emiliano Ramos threw the ball away following another infield single off the bat of first-year Seamus Condon. First-year Ryan Miressi drove Lagemann in on a fielder's choice.

La Crosse scored six unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings off three Garnet Charger arms to go up by 12. Head coach John Muller sent three pinch hitters to the dish in the bottom of the seventh to try and extend the game and prevent being run-ruled, but Keagan Wheeler retired all three Union bats in order to hand the Garnet Chargers their second straight loss in the Sunshine State. Wheeler earned the win in relief while sophomore Ryan Calvario suffered the loss with seven earned runs on his ledger.

The Garnet Chargers seek their first win in Florida on Sunday, March 22 at 11 a.m. against St. Olaf College.
