Women's Tennis Begins Spring Break Trip Against Hamilton

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Union College women's tennis team got its annual Spring Break trip started on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 match to Hamilton College at the USTA National Campus.

Union (2-4) earned one doubles and one singles win on the day, with senior Chara Meidani playing a role in both victories for the Garnet Chargers.

Hamilton (6-2) started the day by taking the doubles point, earning wins in the second and third flights. Meidani and classmate Kennedy Alexis evened doubles play with a 6-3 win over Priyanka Challapalli and Hannah Walpole at the top flight, but the Continentals earned a decisive 7-5 win at second doubles to earn the opening point.

Hamilton clinched the victory by earning wins at third, fourth and fifth singles before adding victories at the sixth and first flights. Senior Skylar Semon battled hard at the top flight against Walpole, taking the first set by a 6-4 margin and before dropping the second and coming just short in a marathon 15-13 supertiebreaker.

Meidani prevented the sweep with a supertiebreaker win at second singles, taking the first set 6-4 and then rebounding from a 6-3 second-set loss to post a 10-5 victory in the decisive breaker.

The Garnet Chargers will be back in action tomorrow with a noon matchup against Kalamazoo College.
