#67 Men's Tennis Drops First Conference Match at #44 Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The #67 Union College men's tennis team dropped its first Liberty League match of the season on Sunday, falling to #44 Vassar College by a 7-0 score at Vassar's Walker Field House.

Vassar (9-5, 3-0 Liberty League) won all three doubles matches to start the day and then swept the six singles matches to deal Union (7-6, 1-1 Liberty League) its first conference loss of the year and remain unbeaten in Liberty League play.

Sophomore Jesus Sosa put up a strong fight against Fernando Bauermeister at second singles, dropping a 7-6 (6-1), 6-4 match. Sosa broke serve down 5-4 in the first set to stay alive and had two set points up 6-5, but could not convert and Bauermeister eventually won in a tiebreaker. Sosa broke again down 3-5 in the second set to stay alive and get back on serve, but Bauermeister returned the favor to finish off the win.

Junior Daniel Saxe also came up one break short on both sets of his fourth-singles match against Jonas Santos, falling in a pair of 6-4 sets. Sophomore Vivaan Gupta did likewise at sixth singles, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 match to Joaquin Gil.
