Pete MacArthur Hired as Assistant Men's Hockey Coach

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Pete MacArthur has been hired as an assistant coach of the Union College men's hockey team, head coach Josh Hauge announced on Tuesday.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Pete MacArthur to Union Hockey," Hauge said. "Pete brings tremendous experience, energy, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the ice. His knowledge of the game, leadership, and ability to build relationships make him an outstanding addition to our staff. We believe Pete will have a tremendous impact on our program, and we are thrilled to have him join Union Hockey."

A Capital Region native with extensive ties to the local hockey community, MacArthur joins Union after serving as a player development coach with the New York Dynamo, where he was the head coach for the organization's 2012 AAA birth year team, an assistant coach for the 2015 AAA birth year team, and a player development and skills coach across the organization.

MacArthur previously spent three seasons as the head coach and director of hockey operations for the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder from 2022-25. During his three seasons behind the bench, MacArthur compiled a 101-88-27 regular-season record and guided Adirondack to two playoff appearances. With MacArthur at the helm, the Thunder won the North Division in 2023-24 and the regular-season Eastern Conference title. His squad made a deep playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals before falling to the eventual Kelly Cup champion Florida Everblades.

Prior to becoming head coach, MacArthur was the team captain of the Thunder in 2021-22 and served as a player-assistant coach with Adirondack during the 2018-19 season. In that role, he assisted with recruiting, practice planning, video breakdown and team systems while also serving as a liaison between the coaching staff and players. He played 202 games as a member of the Thunder. His 122 assists are the second most in franchise history, and he is third in all-time points for Adirondack with 175.

MacArthur is the founder of House Money Hockey, LLC, which he established in 2016 to provide skills training, mentorship and guidance to prep, junior, collegiate and professional hockey players. His coaching background also includes four seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Skidmore College from 2018-22, where he contributed to practice planning and special teams.

As a player, MacArthur enjoyed a lengthy professional career that included 190 AHL games and more than 170 games in the ECHL, as well as time in German and Austrian leagues. He played four seasons at Boston University from 2004-08, appearing in 159 games and serving as team captain as a senior. He earned Hockey East First Team All-Star and Second Team All-American honors in 2008 and was named the Beanpot MVP in 2005.
