SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team battled Clarkson University to a scoreless draw in the Garnet Chargers' Liberty League opener on a rainy Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.
Union's record moves to 2-3-3 (0-0-1 Liberty League) with its second scoreless draw of the season, while Clarkson ends the day at 4-3-1 (1-1-1 Liberty League).
The first half featured six shots but only one-target attempt, a Golden Knight shot in the 41st minute that was saved by senior
Maya Koster. The Garnet Chargers finished the opening 45 minutes with a 4-2 edge in shots.
Union put seven shots toward the Clarkson net in the second half, but were unable to find the elusive first goal. The best chance for either side came off the foot of sophomore
Kayla Coviello in the 52nd minute, when her shot was parried off the bar by Clarkson goalie Kenzie Roth. Roth made two more saves for the visitors in the second half off shots from seniors
Ashley Sheldon and
Taylor Bovardi to keep the match scoreless, while Koster added one save in the 58th minute on the other side of the field.
Union will return to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Bard College.
