SCOTIA, N.Y. – The Union College men's rowing team got its 2026-27 season underway on a rainy Saturday on the Mohawk River, taking part in the Mohawk Fall Classic.
Union got the day started with the Collegiate 2x Final, with seniors
Angus Hall (stroke) and
Kenny Kromer (bow) finishing in 16:54.62 to place fifth out of seven teams.
The Garnet Chargers had two entries in the Collegiate 8+ Final, as the team's "A" boat finished fourth in 12:40.35, less than two seconds away from a top-three finish, while the "B" boat finished in 13:46.14 to place sixth overall. Helmed by first-year coxswain
Matthew Gaull, the "A" boat consisted of senior
Tyler Perry (stroke), sophomore
Thomas Unkles (seven seat), senior
Stuart Livingston (six seat), sophomore
Ben Grassi (five seat), Hall (four seat), senior

Reed Will (bow). The "B" boat was coxed by junior
Elizabeth Canaveral and included sophomore
Nate Nguyen (stroke), Kromer (seven seat), senior
Ben Tohanczyn (six seat), first-year
Sam Dolezal (five seat), junior
Nikola Djurovic (four seat), sophomores
Nico Sanza Stribling (three seat) and
Jesse Balboni (two seat), and junior
Ian Porter (stroke).
Union also had two boats in the Collegiate 4+ Final, placing fourth and seventh. The "A" boat of Gaull (coxswain), Livingston (stroke), Unkles (three seat), Vega (two seat) and Porter (bow) placed fourth with a time of 14:24.24. The "B" boat, consisting of first-year
Taekjin Jeong (coxswain), Perry (stroke), Grassi (three seat), Nguyen (two seat) and Will (bow), finished in 14:47.62 to place seventh.
Union will finish its abbreviated fall schedule on October 24 at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs.
