Biography
2012-2013: Swam in six relays in which the 300-yard backstroke won the event with Welch splitting a time of 55.10, the 400-medley winning the event as well with a split of 54.98 for the backstroke leg and the 200-yard medley placing second with Welch leading the relay off in a 26.10 50 back split...In a dual meet versus Rochester (Nov.10), Andrew finished first in the 100-yard back with a time of 54.37 and second in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:02.65. He also swam the first leg of the 200-yard medley, with a split time of 25.53, helping his team to a second place finish in the race...Placed second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 200-yard backstroke with times of 54.79 and 2:05.77 respectively against Williams (Nov. 17)...Placed in the top ten in six events at the Liberty League Championships which included a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (Nov. 30 - Dec. 1)...Earned a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.56), third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.81) and third in the 200-yard backstroke in a loss against Amherst (Dec. 5). In a meet against Hartwick College and Springfield College, Andrew participated in the 400-yard medley relay, helping the team to second place witha time of 3:36.58. He also swam in the 200-yard backstroke placing first with a time of 2.00.41 (Jan. 5)...Was awarded Men's Swimming & Diving Swimmer of the Week by the Liberty League on January 7. He placed second in a 200-yard freestyle (1:49.31) first in the 100-yard backstroke (53.93) and helped his team come in first in the 200-yard medley against RPI (Jan.11)...In the dual meet against Middlebury, Welch tallied three first place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard backstroke with times of 1:37.93, 25.19 and 53.55 respectively (Jan. 19)...Was awarded Men's Swimming & Diving Swimmer of the Week by the Liberty League on January 21...Paced the 400-yard medley relay and the 100-yard backstroke with times of 3:40.95 and 53.34 time in a win against Hamilton (Jan. 26)...Took the first top finish for the Dutchmen in the 100-yard backstroke as he paced the field with a 53.17 time in a loss against Ithaca (Feb. 2)...Competed in the 200 free going a time of 1:45.26, Welch won the 100 back with a time of 50.21 and placed 7th in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.71. Welch was also apart of the 200 medley relay that broke the school record and placed 3rd overall and the 800 free relay that placed 5th overall at the UNYSCSA Championship Meet at Ithaca College (Feb 20-23)...
2011-12: During this season, Welch won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.44 seconds against Hamilton...recieved Liberty League Honors being named the Co-Rookie of the week...was part of the squad that won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.30 against RPI.
Prior to Union: Captained his swim team for his Junior and Senior year at Glasgow High.
