October 4th, 2010
Community Service Project:
- We have decided to postpone the run for this fall and accumulate it with Run Ribs & Reggae. We think that we need to get student athletes more involved and invested into these projects. Instead of just paying the $5 and running, we are going to have teams go to Albany Children's Hospital (maybe each team to volunteer here once a trimester?). This way teams are much more intrinsically involved and will feel more compelled to see out the success of the event. This will also give athletes a better understanding of what they are donating towards and how it is helping.
SAAC Points:
-We just went over the agenda (If you want to attach the *fixed agenda that would be good). Also as a SAAC committee we need to go over the double counting for athletes that play more than one sport. These points need to be specified for what team(s) they are going towards. Also we are going to work with Eric to keep updates on the SAAC homepage on a monthly level, to see how teams are doing.
T-Shirts:
-We have decided as a group to scratch the t-shirt idea for n ow. We are going to wait until Davis hears back from his t-shirt contact in regards to prices in comparison to our budget. Also since we are waiting to do the race until Run Ribs & Reggae, we are going to wait to make the shirts for the event (too soon). Another thought is making SAAC shirts because not many other students, besides athletes, know what SAAC is. Still we are going to wait and see what we can work with for budget and t-shirt estimates.
What SAAC reps need to do:
* Fall sport athletes need to email us what game they would like to designate for their SAAC Game.
Corrections to Agenda:
-athletes playing two sports, points will count toward each team.
-next meeting is Oct. 18th
Oct. 18th, 2010
Chelsea Charette opened the meeting at 1:03pm
She reminded the group to send in SAAC points and suggested it may be easier to elect one rep to keep track of team's points and to send in the points as they are received union.saac.points@gmail.com
October SAAC points are Due Nov. 1st
Volleyball team reps announced Women's volleyball SAAC day Oct. 19th, supporting breast cancer awareness
Clarissa Odence suggested a SACC Kickball night
The group decided to have it be held the night of Mon. Nov. 8th or as close to there as possible depending on field availability
Pat Petty presented NCAA legislation changes
Several of the changes were discussed and the officers have decided to revisit the issue
Pat Petty then asked for Fall Sport Reps to give an update on their seasons:
Pearl Jurist-Shoen Women's soccer: 11-3, may of lost chance to host but likely will get into liberty league tournament.
Ben Lawrence Men's cross country: 8 out 31 teams at Westfield meet, meet before that 1st out of 13, States next weekend
Kelsey MacElroy field hockey: Currently tied for 3rd in the league, start post season play soon
Carissa Vazzana Volleyball: SAAC day against Sage, team is hopefully going to liberty leagues
Eric McDowell spoke:
Crew had a great weekend at home. Women's cross country doing well to. Football tough loss this weekend but home again this weekend. Women's hockey won against sacred heart this weekend. Men's hockey won last game in Alaska.
Meeting ended 1:26pm.
