Bryan McDonald

Bryan McDonald returned for his sixth season as the Goaltending Coach for the Union College men's hockey team in 2025-26.

In 2025-26, McDonald worked with three new goalies which combined for seven shutouts. Sophomore Cameron Korpi became the fourth Union goaltender in the Division-I era to record 5+ shutouts, and first-year Brayden Gillespie recorded a pair of clean sheets as well. Gillespie made 31 saves in a shutout against #8 Quinnipiac, becoming the first Union goalie to shut out a ranked foe since Alex Sakellaropoulos '17 against #13 Merrimack on Nov. 28, 2015.

During the 2024-25 season, McDonald helped guide Kyle Chauvette to All-ECAC Hockey third-team honors, the program's first All-Conference recognition for a netminder since 2017-18.

Prior to Union, McDonald spent one season as the Men’s Goaltending Coach at Colgate University in 2019-20. He oversaw a sophomore tandem that was voted team Co-Defensive Players of the Year, along with finishing 4th and 10th respectively in save percentage in program history.

McDonald is the Owner and Director of MAC Goaltending, which is the Official Goaltender Development Partner to ECAC Hockey. Additionally, he is the Goaltending Coach for Skidmore College (NCAA, D3) and the personal coach and consultant for numerous goaltenders competing at the Professional, IIHF, and NCAA levels.

McDonald began his coaching career with Castleton University. He was also previously tasked as a consultant with Wisconsin-Superior (NCAA DIII) and Wilkes University (NCAA DIII).
