Matt Alvey

Matt Alvey enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach. Alvey served as Hudson Valley Community College’s ice hockey coach from 2002 to 2015, guiding the Vikings to five National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament appearances. 

A Troy, NY native, Alvey was a second-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins in 1993. He played three seasons in the ECHL and two in the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) before injuries forced him to retire in 2001. 

Alvey won the 1994 NCAA Division I National Championship at Lake Superior State University, tallying the game-winning goal against Boston University in the championship game. A four-year player for the Lakers, Alvey appeared in 122 games, producing 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points. 

Alvey resides in Troy with his wife, Amber, daughter, Addison and son, Jameson.
