Box ScoreSiobhan Russells fifth goal of the season, and her second of the period, came with 2:32 left to play in the third stanza and carried visiting Sacred Heart to a 3-2 victory over Union College in a Division I womens ice hockey game at the Frank L. Messa Rink at the Achilles Center.
The loss was the sixth-straight for the Dutchwomen, now 2-7-1 overall, while Sacred Heart evened its record at 4-4-0.
Kate Gustafsons second goal of the season gave Union a 1-0 lead at 1:17 of the first period. Freshman goaltender Mandy Hanson made that tally stand up as she kicked out all 13 shots she faced during the first two periods. Sacred Heart tied the game at 1-1 when Russell found the back of the net with an unassisted tally at 1:51 of the third. The visitors took a 2-1 lead when Michelle Panella scored an unassisted goal, her fifth of the year, at 14:47. Union came right back to tie the game at 2-2 when Kiersten Supina found the back of the net at 16:50 with Gustafson picking up the assist.
The Dutchwomen pulled Hanson with a minute remaining but were unable to come up with the equalizer. Hanson, who dropped to 1-2, finished with 21 saves while Sacred Heart netminder Stephanie Boulay picked up her fourth win in five decisions with a 39-save effort.
