Box ScoreSchenectady, NY (Nov. 19, 2004) Led by the Jenna Spring-Deena Caplette connection, visiting Yale cruised to a 7-0 win at Messa Rink on Friday night. Spring scored three of Yale's first four goals with Caplette assisting on each as the Bulldogs improved to 4-3-0 overall, 3-2-0 in ECACHL league play with the win. Union dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play.
The lone score of the opening period came off Spring's stick when she took a feed from Caplette in front of net and squeezed a shot past Union netminder Laura Carlson (Rochelle, IL) with 4:25 left on the clock. The sophomore goaltender snuffed 35 shots in goal in defeat for the Dutchwomen. Her counterpart Sarah Love made 4 saves in goal for the Bulldogs, while picking up her fourth win of the season in net.
The second period began with Yale dominating play in the Union zone and culminated in a 3-goal period. Senior Alison Turney made it 2-0 off an assist from Spring with 8:13 left in the period. Less than two minutes later, Spring notched her second mark of the game and put Yale safely ahead 3-0, before scoring her final goal with 1:35 left in the second period.
The Bulldogs added three goals in the opening nine minutes of the third period, with two scores from senior Erin Duggan and a power play goal by sophomore Kelsey Johnson. Senior Nicole Symington was credited with two of her three assists in the closing period. Sophomore Carrie Horbatuk closed up shop in goal for Yale, going the final 27 minutes in net while making 4 saves.
Union, which suffered its first home loss of the season, was unable capitalize on each of its six power play opportunities. Meanwhile, Yale went 1-for-3 on the power play and enjoyed a healthy 42-8 shot advantage for the game.
Union, which has lost its last four contests, will take on the Bulldogs at Messa Rink again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
