Schenectady, N.Y. (February 6, 2004) - Union College senior captain Glenn Sanders (Saugus, Mass.) made his return tonight here at Messa Rink from Achilles Center in a 3-1 ECAC win over Clarkson (11-11-5, 6,7-2). The Dutchmen (10-13-4, 4-9-2) recorded their first conference home win since November 15th on two goals by freshman Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec), his sixth and seventh on the season. Bouchard scored at 4:01 of the first period to give Union the 1-0 first period lead. Scott Seney (Silver Springs, MD) would score his team leading twelfth goal at 6:49 of the second period on the power play off a beautiful Bouchard pass. Clarkson would cut the lead to 2-1 at the 15:52 mark in the 3rd period, as John Sullivan scored his seventh goal on the season on the power play. Kris Mayotte (Finleyville, PA), (7-12-4) who made 27 saves, stood solid down the stretch as Bouchard would seal the game with an empty net goal to give the Dutchmen the victory. Sanders was back on the ice for the first time since November 14th, when he suffered a ruptured spleen. Sanders was spectacular on special teams, blocking four shots on the penalty kill. Sophomore Dustin Traylen (8-8-5) made 30 saves in taking the loss for the Golden Knights. Assistant captain Joel Beal did not play for the Dutchmen, he was a healthy scratch due to a decision by head coach Nate Leaman. The Dutchmen will host St. Lawrence tomorrow night, during which Union College will honor the 1984-85 NCAA D-III National runner up team during the second intermission.
