Box ScoreSchenectady, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2005) Union and Connecticut went goal for goal after the Dutchmen tallied the game-opener and skated to an eventual 4-4 tie in overtime at Messa Rink. After scoring his first career hat trick the previous night, Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, QUE) had a goal and two assists to lead Union who was whistled for eight penalties that resulted in three power play goals for the Huskies which kept them in the game. Union is now 1-2-1 on the season while Connecticut is 0-0-1.
Sophomore Josh Coyle (Brooklyn, OH) scored his third goal of the season to put Union ahead at 9:07 of the first period. Coyle and Bouchard, who worked well together on the same line, orchestrated a give and go at the Connecticut blue line leading to a slap shot by Coyle that beat goalie Brad Smith to his right side. The two would team up once again at 7:55 of the second period on Bouchard's goal with Coyle setting up his linemate to give the Dutchmen a 2-1 lead.
Prior to Bouchard's goal, Cole Koidahl scored for Connecticut on the power play to wrap up scoring in the first period at 16:09 off a feed from B.J. Crum. Koidahl fired a shot from the point that got past Union goaltender Justin Mrazek (Regina, SASK).
Both teams each scored a pair of goals in the second period starting with Bouchard's. Chris Myhro knotted the score at 2-2 with a power play tally at 12:37 before T.J. Fox (Oswego, NY) scored his second goal of the season, also on the power play to regain the advantage for the Dutchmen.
Following a Huskies' goal by Matt Sherer who fired a shot between the face off circles after taking a feed from Koidahl, freshman Augie DiMarzo (West Haven, CT) tucked away a rebound shot in front. The initial shot by Rory Farrell (Westfield, MA) was kicked aside by Smith but went right to DiMarzo who lay in wait and was left unmarked.
With a 4-3 lead, Coyle was whistled for an interference call at 12:06. Connecticut took advantage and tied the game once again on the power play when Chris Uber registered in the scoring column with his first goal of the season. Once again the goal came with a shot up top that Uber snuck past Mrazek who was screened in front.
Union outshot Connecticut 27-22, including a 3-1 advantage in overtime, but could not solve Smith for one more go ahead goal.
The Dutchmen will look to pull even on the season when they return home on Friday, October 28 to face Bentley in a 7:00 p.m. showdown.
