Box ScoreSchenectady, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2005) Union endured another tough outing against Clarkson in the series finale at home as they fell 8-0 for the second game in a row. Goaltender Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN), who entered the game after starter Dana Smullyan (Salisbury, CT) surrendered two goals on five shots in the first period, finished with 45 saves for the Dutchwomen. The Golden Knights held a commanding 56-8 advantage in shots and converted on three of four power play opportunities. The loss put Union at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the ECACHL while Clarkson improved to 5-2-1 and 2-0-0 in league play.
Junior Christine Bailkowski registered a hat trick for Clarkson and Marie-Jo Gaudet scored a pair of goals. Bailkowski's first goal came at 6:55 of the first period, 45 seconds after Ashley Shaidle scored what would prove to be the game-winner. Bailkowski skated across the front of the net to the left face-off circle and beat Smullyan between the pads. Hanson replaced Smullyan following the goal.
Hanson was able to hold off Clarkson initially. She thwarted their efforts at the end of the first power play opportunity by making three consecutive stops at point blank range.
The Golden Knights applied too much pressure though and was able to increase the lead just over three minutes later. Lindsay Williams scored the first power play goal for Clarkson at 15:46 of the opening period to make it 3-0. Bailkowski followed up with her other two scores, the last one coming at 4:02 of the second period on the power play to make it 5-0. She put back a rebound on the weak side after Hanson made an initial save on a shot by Brooke Beazer.
Union's lone scoring chance came on its first shot of the game at 1:09 of the second. Ashley Kilstein (Cherry Hill, NJ) sent a wrister in front off a feed at the right face-off circle by Josie McDermott (Unadilla, NY). Clarkson goalie Kira Hurley made one of her eight saves on the play though as she was positioned and waiting at the near post.
Gaudet's first goal came on the power play at 10:30 of the second period which was followed less than a minute later by Andrea Maluta's first tally of the season. Gaudet closed things out with her second at 13:00 of the third period for the final score.
Union will host Sacred Heart in a pair of games next week as the Dutchwomen will be seeking their first win of the season. The series commences on Friday, October 4th at 7:00 p.m.
