Cambridge, MA (Feb. 11, 2005) After coming off a pair of wins last weekend the Union women's hockey team could not generate the same result against Harvard, falling 7-0. The Dutchwomen were outshot 49-9 against the No. 5 ranked team in the nation as they remain winless in league play at 0-15 and fell to 5-22-1 overall.
Harvard's Nicole Corriero opened up the scoring for the Crimson on the power play at 5:51 of the first period with her first of three goals. She added two more just 21 seconds apart from each other in the third period, beginning at 10:10. Julie Chu assisted on both of those goals.
Liza Solley finished with two goals on the night, scoring back-to-back tallies in the first period. Her first came at 12:55 off a feed from Carrie Schroyer. Jennifer Sifers, who finished with two assists, had the helper on Solley's second goal at 13:25.
Harvard scored one goal in the second period on 15 shots. Laura Brady netted her first of the season at 13:49.
Kat Sweet wrapped up the scoring at 16:39 of the final stanza.
Union freshman Stephanie Armstrong (Stoneham, MA) led the team with four shots, including three in the third period, as the only player to register more than one.
Goaltender Dana Smullyan (Salisbury, CT) made 30 saves for the Dutchwomen in the loss. She was replaced by Amanda Hanson (Brainerd, MN) to start the third period. Hanson would finish with 12 stops.
Emily Vitt picked up her second win of the season for Harvard.
The two teams will battle one more time in a 4:00 p.m. faceoff tomorrow.
