It was the second win for the Dutchwomen when surrendering the game's first goal. The win was the second straight over the Pioneers and fourth of the season to give Union the sweep and help them improve to 5-21-1 overall. Following a scoreless first period, Sacred Heart got the game-opener with a goal from Michelle Panella at 1:49. She took a lead pass from Shannon Murphy into the Union zone and lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Carlson. It was the first time this season the Dutchwomen trailed the Pioneers.
The deficit would not last however, as Union responded just under six minutes later with the game-tying strike from Courtney Riepenhoff (Skillman, NJ). Sophomore Stephanie Burlton (Coquitlam, BC) started the play at the blue line with a pass down to Stephanie Armstrong (Stoneham, MA) who sent the puck across the front of the crease to the left side where Riepenhoff tucked it into the corner past Sacred Heart goalie Stephanie Boulay.
Union would then take its first lead of the game at 11:24 when sophomore Kelly Lannan (Winchester, MA) glanced the puck off the crossbar and in for her third goal of the season.
Sacred Heart came back to tie the game on the power play at 2:24 of the third period. Sarah Turbert sent in a rebound shot that came from Devon Gaslin.
Later in the period Union would regain the lead for good when Elise Nichols (Pittsfield, MA) netted her 11th goal of the season with a backhand shot to the left of Boulay that snuck underneath her at 15:43. Linnea Edwardson (Duluth, MN) set Nichols up with a lead pass in transition. Edwardson finished off the scoring 1:50 later with her fifth goal of the season.
Boulay made 54 saves in a losing effort while Carlson picked up her second win of the season.
