POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Union opened the final match of the first day of the Vassar Invitational volleyball tourney with an opening game win. But No. 23-ranked Cortland State stormed back to win the next three games to complete a 3-1 win (20-30, 30-12, 30-22, 30-27 and go 2-0 in opening round competition. Union went 0-2 on the day and fell to 0-6 on the young season.

Freshman outside hitter Julie La Spina (Roslyn Heights, NY/Roslyn) had 14 kills and and fellow freshman Ellen Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) had seven kills for the Dutchwomen.
