Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Dutchmen snap winless streak with 4-3 OT win over Princeton

SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior Olivier Bouchard (Quebec City, QUE) scored the game-winner with just over a minute left in the extra period to give the Union College men's hockey team its first ECAC Hockey League win of the season, 4-3, over Princeton. The win snaps a five-game winless streak for the Dutchmen, whose record improves to 3-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECACHL.
Freshman Jason Walters (Renfrew, ONT) sent the puck in from the point down to junior Josh Coyle (Brooklyn, OH) who was cycling around the hashmarks. Coyle passed across to Bouchard, whose shot ricocheted between the post and the skate of Princeton goaltender Thomas Sychterz, dribbling in over the goal line at 3:54 of the overtime period.
Union held a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission on a one-timer from sophomore T.J. Fox (Oswego, NY). Sophomore Matt Cook (Belle Mead, NJ), who led the Dutchmen with a career high-tying three points, carried the puck down the boards and passed across the slot to Fox.
The Tigers (0-3-1, 0-2-0 ECACHL) rallied back to take the lead in the second period, as Lee Jubinville knocked a rebound pas Union netminder Justin Mrazek (Regina, SASK). Jubinville originally took a shot from the point, and Brandan Kushniruk batted at the rebound off of Mrazek's pad as he came out to cover the puck. Jubinville collected the puck and scored easily on the empty net.
A similar play carried the Tigers into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead. Senior captain Darroll Powe took a shot from the right point, and Grant Goeckner-Zeller slid the rebound between Mrazek's left skate and the post.
Union re-took the lead on a pair of goals less than two minutes apart, the first a short-handed tally by freshman Jeff Christiansen (Elm Grove, WI). Christiansen carried the puck in, passed over to Cook who fed it back to the rookie. Christiansen stuffed in the puck off a rebound of his original shot at the doorstep for his first career point. Cook picked up his third goal in four games to give the Dutchmen the lead as he poked in a pass from Augie DiMarzo (West Haven, CT) at 7:33 of the third.
Jubinville notched his second goal of the game just over five minutes later with a shot from the hashmarks. He collected a pass from Kevin Westgarth, carried the puck along the boards, and beat Mrazek on his glove side to knot the game at 3-3 with 7:45 remaining in regulation.
Mrazek made 30 saves in his third win of the season. Sychterz stopped 28 Union shots.
The Dutchmen have a two-week break before hosting a pair of non-conference games at Messa Arena. Union plays Army on Friday, November 24 at 7 p.m. and follows with a matchup with Massachusetts on November 25 at 7 p.m.
