Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Third-Period Goals Power Union Past Army, 4-1

SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomores Matt Cook (Belle Mead, NJ) and T.J. Fox (Oswego, NY) extended their point streaks to five games as the Union College men's ice hockey team tallied three third-period goals to overtake Army, 4-1, in non-conference action at Messa Rink Friday evening. Fox registered a power-play goal and two assists, while Cook netted his fourth goal of the season to cap the scoring in the third period.
Freshman Jeff Christiansen (Elm Grove, WI) tallied his second goal in as many games to open the scoring late in the second period. Fellow rookie Mike Schreiber (Sherwood Park, ALB) deflected a Mario Valery-Trabucco (Montreal, QUE) shot from the point, which Christiansen tipped over Army goaltender A.J. Drago's stick side. Schreiber registered his first career multiple-point game with two assists in the game.
Union (4-3-2, 1-1-0 ECACHL) bolstered its 1-0 second-period lead with two unanswered goals to start the third. Trabucco connected on a pass from Fox just over a minute into the final stanza for his fourth goal of the season. Fox collected a pass from Schreiber seven minutes later, and after splitting the defense, shot high on Drago's blocker side. The goaltender bobbled the puck as he inched backwards, finally allowing the puck to cross the line.
Army (6-6-1, 6-3-1 AHA) cut the Dutchmen's lead to 3-1 at 11:14 of the third with a power-play goal as Owen Meyer tipped in a shot from the point by Tim Manthey. Casey Bickley fed Manthey the puck across the point for his eighth assist on the season.
Cook capped the scoring midway through the third period as got past a defender while collecting a pass from Valery-Trabucco on a two-on-two rush. Cook's shot slid through Drago's outstretched blocker and pad.
Freshman Rich Sillery (Hyattsville, MD) made 23 saves, including 11 while on the penalty kill, for his first career win. Drago made 15 saves in his second start of the season.
The Dutchmen extend their Division I series lead against the Black Knights to 8-1-1, and are unbeaten in the past nine meetings.
Union is back in action tomorrow, hosting #14 Massachusetts in a 7 p.m. game at Messa Rink. With the donation of a canned or non-perishable food item, fans will receive $1 off their admission price as part of the Union Hockey Food Drive to benefit the City Mission of Schenectady.
