SCHENECTADY, NY -- Seniors John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) and Brian Scordato (Mt. Kisco, NY/Horace Greeley) scored 20 points each, but Hamilton scored the victory, 80-70, in a Liberty League men's basketball game at the Scott Field House Saturday.
Union led 39-31 at halftime, but the Continentals outscored the Dutchmen, 49-31 in the second half, to improve to 17-3 and 9-1, which leads the league. Union fell to 5-5 overall and 12-9 in the league.
Cagianello made seven of 11 shots and dished out four assists while Scordato hit seven of 12 and made all three of his free throws for Union. Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona Sherrill) scored 12 points off the bench and Scordato had a team-high eight rebounds.
Tsakane Ngobeni led the hosts with a double-double, 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Tim Welchons had 18 points and Phil Valenti scored 13 for Hamilton. The Continentals shot 54% in the second half after the Dutchmen had shot 54% in the first stanza. Hamilton doubled the visitors' rebounding effort, with a 42-21 rebounding advantage for the game.
Union returns home next weekend, hosting St. Lawrence Friday at 8 p.m. and Clarkson Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Viniar Athletic Center.
