POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Seeding played out to form in the opening round of the 2006 Liberty League Men's Tennis Championships at Vassar College Saturday. Rain moved the tournament indoors.

No. 1 seed Skidmore, No. 2 Vassar, No. 3 St. Lawrence and No. 4 Hamilton all moved on to second round matches, with the top three seeds winning easily and only Hamilton pulled out the win over Union in singles, as four of the singles matches went to tie breakers.

Union was led by Trey Minter (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) and Jason Leibowitz (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley). Minter won at #2 singles in straight sets, and joined DeVer Warner (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) for a #2 doubles victory. Leibowitz joined Andrew Draznin (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) for a #1 double victory, and was pulled out a win in #3 singles. He won the opener 6-3, then after losing 6-0, dominated the tie breaker, 10-5.

Union defeated Clarkson for the second time in three days. Draznin and Leibowitz were both winners in both singles and doubles.

The Dutchmen will play Hobart for fifth place on Sunday.
