SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team completed play at the annual Garnet Charger Invitational, held on Friday and Saturday at the Union Tennis Courts.
 
Trinity (Conn.) College six of the eight flight titles on the weekend, with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute earning one singles title and St. Lawrence University winning one doubles flight as well.
 
Union players earned at least one win in all five singles flights on the weekend. At the top two-levels, sophomore Simon Philip won his "A" quarterfinal match against Drew University's Daniel Arcari, 8-4, and junior Jesus Sosa knocked off Felix Puyplat of RPI in "B" quarterfinal action, 8-4.
 
Senior Daniel Saxe made the semifinals of the "C" singles bracket after an 8-3 win over RPI's Isaac Husni, as did junior Arhan Gupta in the "D" bracket with an 8-4 victory over Justin Son of SLU. Junior Riichi Nagatake and sophomore Reilly Fowles both earned first-round wins in the "E" singles bracket as well, posting 6-2 and 6-0 wins, respectively.
 
Senior Shreyas Kode won a pair of matches to finish atop the "D" consolation bracket on Sunday, coming back from a first-round loss on Friday to defeat Drew's Nathen Martin, 8-6, and outlast RPI's Cade Collingwood in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-5).
 
Sosa and senior Solen Bellemare took third in the "A" doubles bracket, earning a 6-2 quarterfinal win over Arcari and Samir Roberts-Mouzon and then rebounding from a semifinal loss by defeating SLU's Jake David and Josh David by a 6-3 score.
 
In the "C" doubles bracket, junior Riichi Nagatake and sophomore Reilly Fowles also earned a quarterfinal victory, defeating Crew's Cameron Longa and Nick Weglinski.
 
Union will begin its dual match and Liberty League season on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. opening serve against Bard College at the Union Tennis Courts.
