SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's swimming and diving team fell to visiting Rensselaer, 143-97, in a dual meet at Union Wednesday evening. The Dutchmen drop to 1-3 on the season. The Red Hawks improve to 5-0 in dual meets.
Steve Schapp (Torrington, CT/ Torrington) and
Kevin Kewin (Brockport, NY/ Brockport) were multiple winners, while RPI's diving duo of Greg Derevianko (Wilmington, DE/ Brandywine) and Matthew Culen (Pelham, NY/ Pelham) swept the first two spots in both the 1- and 3-meter dives.
Schapp won the 200 and 500 freestyle with times of 1:49.94 and 4:59.16, and also took the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.54. Kewin won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.43 and the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.02. Kewin also helped the Dutchmen to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.19.
Derevianko won the 3-meter dive with a score of 264.98 and placed second in the 1-meter dive. Culen won the 1-meter dive with a 285.65 score and took second in the 3-meter.
The Union teams are back in action on Saturday, January 20 when the Dutchmen and Dutchwomen host Middlebury in a 2 p.m. dual meet.
