NEWTON, MA -- Sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) had 19 assists vs. host Lasell and 11 kills and 10 assists against Regis as Union swept both teams in volleyball action Saturday at the Lasell College Athletic Center.
The Dutchwomen improved to 16-6 with the two three-game victories. Union defeated the host Lasers in the morning, 30-15, 30-19 and 30-22, then wrapped up the day with a sweep over the Rangers, 30-11, 30-21 and 30-24. Union has now won nine straight and 12 of the last 13 matches.
In the opening victory, Erika Van Valkenburg (Cicero, NY) posted 12 kills and Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) recorded 11 kills. Freshman Rebecca Schlenker (Cranford, NJ) dished out 11 assists and Veronica Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) had 19 assists.
Schlenker finished with 28 assists in the three game win over Regis. Mynders added 14 digs, and Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) had 15 kills for the Dutchwomen.
Union has reached 16 wins faster then any team since the 1979 edition, which finished the year with a 16-3 record. Union hosts the Liberty League/SUNYAC Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
The Dutchwomen will play at Russell Sage on Wednesday, October 16, and the match will feature "CRANKIN' FOR THE CURE" with fund raising for the fight against breast cancer. The match will take place at 7 p.m.
