SCHENECTADY, NY -- In the final tuneup for the state championships, the Union women's swimming & diving team won in the final home meet of the season, 156-81 in front of a large attendance at the Alumni Gym Pool. The Dutchwomen got two victories each in events by Mary Kate Baumann (Armonk, NY/Byram Hills), Molly Freeman (Barrington, IL/Barrington) and Christa White (Washington, DC/Choate Rosemary).
Baumann was first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.65, and won the 200 back at 2:13.08. She also had the fourth leg of the winning 400 medley relay, the first race of the day that set the tone for Union. Baumann joined Amy Nestlerode (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), Brianne Phillips (West Hartford, CT/Conard), and Sydnie Wells (Bolton Landing, NY/Bolton Central). Union won the event at 4:05.20.
Freeman, who won this week's Liberty League Diver of the Week honor for the fifth straight week, won both the one meter and three meter dives. Her one meter score was 239.24, (over 23 points better then second place), and she also dominated the three meter at 274.80, over 47 points better then the second place scorer.
White touched first int he 50 free at 25.69, and won the 100 free at 55.89. Other Union victories included the 200 fly by Wells at 2:13.11, Sara Callahan (Shelton, CT/Shelton) in the 500 free at 5:23.18, and Phillips in the 200 breast at 2:30.49.
The Dutchwomen will compete at the NYSCAA Championships February 15-17 at Nottingham High School.
