CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team swept its season-opening dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Augsbury Natatorium, defeating the host school St. Lawrence University 142-119 and Clarkson University 155-128.

Senior Chloe Matthews and sophomore Alison Sweeney led the way for Union, winning all six of their combined events. Matthews, serving as the team's captain, won the 100 freestyle (56.81), the 200 freestyle (2:05.61), the 200 individual medley (2:21.76), and swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200-medley relay. Sweeney took the podium in the 50 breaststroke (34.56), the 100 breaststroke (1:14.76), and teamed up with Matthews on the first-place 200 medley, swimming the breaststroke leg.

After narrowly outtouching Clarkson in the 200 medley to start the meet, the Garnet Chargers went on to win five more events  and six overall. Senior Jessica Konsky and sophomore Mya Schattin joined Matthews and Sweeney on the podium in the 200 medley relay. Konsky, Schattin, senior Grace Furtado, and sophomore Maggie Reale placed second in the 400 freestyle relay, just under one second behind Clarkson.

Konsky was the third Garnet Charger along with Matthews and Sweeney to win an individual event, outpacing St. Lawrence's Lilly Mruzik by less than one second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.71). She also placed second in the 50 backstroke (30.62).

While sophomore Julia Garber didn't find the top of the podium in her four events, she did claim second and third-place finishes in the 50 butterfly (28.73) and 100 fly (1:05.08), respectively.

The Garnet Chargers have never lost to the Golden Knights. They have now defeated the Saints three straight times and won for the first time in the Saints' pool since 1997.
