GENEVA, NY -- Union competed in the Liberty League Men's Tennis Championships and lost to host Hobart, 5-3, and fell to Rensselaer in the fifth place match, 5-2 later in the day. The Dutchmen are now 2-3 on the season.
Sophomore Trey Minter (Bronxville, NY/Bronxville) won in the #2 singles vs. Hobart in the earlier match, then won at #1 singles against the Red Hawks. In the opener, he defeated Mat Silver in a comeback, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. His #1 victory came over Sam Tehven of RPI, 6-2, 7-5.
Minter joined senior Andrew Draznin (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) with a win at #1 doubles vs. Hobar'ts Silver and James Micheroni, 8-3. In the other doubles win vs. the Statesmen, junior Tom Haynes (Hanover, NH/Hanover) joined freshman Joe Wold (Casper, WY/Williston Northampton) for an 8-3 triumph over Charlie Davis and Jamie Flanigan. Wold and Haynes also won at #3 doubles vs. RPI, 8-2 over Steve Chao and Adam Kell.
Union hosts Hartwick Tuesday at 4 p.m.
