SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College women's volleyball team went 2-0 on the first day of play at the Union Invitational Friday. Union downed Plattsburgh, 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-22) in the 4 pm match, and toppled Utica, 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-15) at 6 pm.
Vassar also went 2-0 on the day, while Utica, Hartwick, Plattsburgh and Skidmore each finished the first day 1-1. Russell Sage and Oswego each dropped both of their matches.

Union 3, Plattsburgh 0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-22)
Skidmore 3, Hartwick 0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-28)
Erica Duncan (San Fransisco, CA) led the Thoroughbreds with 12 kills, 10 digs and a .345 hit percentage. Becca Ormsby (Charlton, NY) added 30 assists, five aces and nine digs, while Laura Dinsdale (Harrington Park, NJ) collected 29 digs.
Christina Evans (Cedar Hill, UT) paced Hartwick with 18 kills, 19 digs and four aces. Abby Cummings (Syracuse, NY) chipped in with 26 digs and seven kills, while Megan Lemery (So. Glens Falls, NY) had 25 assists.

Union 3, Utica 0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-15)
Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) led the Dutchwomen with seven kills, seven solo blocks and three block assists.
Erin Schumaker (Saratoga Springs, NY) added seven kills. Roni Mynders (Port Jervis, NY) collected 22 digs and had four aces, while Jen Merinder (Andover, MA) had 30 assists.
Vassar 3, Russell Sage 0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-25)
Caitlyn Ly (Chicago, IL) led the Brewers with 13 kills and 12 digs. Cat Foley (Clifton Park, NY) picked up 10 kills, five blocks and four digs, while Jasmin Iskandar (San Dimas, CA) registered nine digs and four aces.
Plattsburgh 3, Oswego 1 (22-30, 30-15, 30-19, 30-27)
Heidi Armstrong (Solvay, NY) paced the Lakers with an all-around effort of 17 kills, nine digs, a block and an ace. Amanda McManus (Solvay, NY) added 35 assists, eight digs, six kills and two blocks, while Kim Hayes (East Quogue, NY) collected 10 kills, 14 digs and an ace.

Hartwick 3, Russell Sage 1 (29-31, 30-26, 30-26, 30-22)
Libero Kerry Sisson (Ballston Spa, NY) led Hartwick with 23 digs, while Christina Evans (Cedar Hill, UT) added 23 kills and 16 digs.
Utica 3, Oswego 1 (30-28, 30-21, 15-30, 30-25)
Amanda McManus (Solvay, NY) recorded 43 assists, 10 digs, three kills and an ace to lead the Lakers. Heidi Armstrong (Solvay, NY) added 22 kills, 13 digs, two blocks and a pair of aces. Kristen Allen (Syracuse, NY) had 12 kills, seven digs and three blocks, while Kim Hayes (East Quogue, NY) registered 14 kills, 15 digs and an ace.
Vassar 3, Skidmore 2 (24-30, 30-28, 13-30, 30-23, 15-7)
Caitlin Ly (Chicago, IL) had 16 kills and 32 digs to lead Vassar, and Cat Foley (Clifton Park, NY) added 17 kills, two blocks and three aces.
