SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Sophomore Steve Schapp (Torrington, CT) and junior Kevin Kewin (Brockport, NY) helped lead the Union men's swimming & diving team to a 142.50-84.50 victory over Hartwick at Springfield College Saturday. The Dutchmen lost to the host Pride, 145-96.
Schapp won the 1000 freestyle, with a time of 10:04.91, nearly 25 seconds better then the second place finisher. He also took first place in the 500 free, clocking at 4:54.31.
Kewin won the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke. His time of 1:59.63 was victorious in the 200 IM and he touched at 2:00.03 to triumph in the 200 back.
Other winners for Union included Lucas Tiziani (Seekonk, MA) and Brian Scarlett (Lutherville, MD). Tiziani was the victor in the 200 butterfly, with a time of 1:58.48. Scarlett won the 200 freestyle with his time of 1:48.67.
Union finished second in the 400 medley relay at 3:45.29, featuring Scarlett, Nathan Seder (Belmont, MA), Tiziani and Kevin Jung (Livinston, NJ). The Dutchmen also took second place in the 400 free relay event, as Kewin, Jung, Todd Herman (Bala Cynwyd, PA) and Schapp touched at 3:19.13.
The Dutchmen will compete at RPI Friday, January 18 at 6 p.m.
