SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior midfielder Anne Hanson (White River Junction, VT) scored with 14:13 remaining in regulation to lift the Union College field hockey team to a 2-1 Liberty League win over the University of Rochester at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen improved to 8-2 overall with a fourth straight victory, and now stand 3-2 in the league. The Yellowjackets fell to 9-6 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Keelin Skurek (Massillon, OH) was 12 yards out to the left of the goal and fed Hanson, who shot from eight yards out in front to the left of Rochester goalkeeper Danielle Pearson (Ilion, NY). It was Hanson's fifth goal of the year and her second in two days and she also assisted on Union's first goal in this victory.
Rochester got the first goal of the day when Christi Bottcher (Lehighton, PA) scored at 26:26. Erica Gelb (Baltimore, MD) took a corner and Bottcher took the pass from Gelb for the 1-0 visitor's lead. Union quickly tied it at 1-1 at 28:34. Tyler Willey (Stockton, NJ) notched her fourth of the season with a pass from the left corner from Hanson. She had a quick release on the pass for the tying tally.
Pearson made four saves in the Rochester nets while Union starting goaltender Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) made four saves in the first half. Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) made two stops in the second half.
The Yellowjackets had a 14-12 shot advantage on the day, and recorded 14 corners to eight corners for the Dutchwomen. Union plays a non-league contest at Hartwick Tuesday at 4 p.m.
