BRONX, NY -- The Lehman College men's basketball team (2-3 Overall, 0-0 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference contest earlier this evening, falling to the Union College Dutchmen (2-1 Overall, 0-0 Liberty) by a score of 71-68 at the APEX Center in the Bronx. The Lightning, who trailed by as many as 10 points in the contest, came within a missed three-pointer by senior guard Scottie Nimmons of tying the game in the final seconds.
In the victory, the Dutchmen shot lights-out, connecting on 56.5 percent of their shots for the contest, including a 5-13 clip from three-point range. Union College also converted on 14 of their 19 attempts from the charity stripe. Leading the way for Union College was senior
Steve Madej who tallied 18 points (5-9 FG) while grabbing six rebounds and dishing two assists. Fellow senior
Drew Desmarais added 16 points and added three rebounds, and
Matt Covucci posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Nimmons led the Lightning with a game-high 19 points on 7-13 shooting, including a 3-9 clip from downtown. The fguard also grabbed three rebounds and tallied two assists for Lehman. In addition, senior standout Duane Rhoden netted 16 points (6-16 FG) and snatched five rebounds, while sophomore Jameson Garcia tallied 15 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Both of Union's wins have come by scores of 71-68. Union is idle until Tuesday, December 4, when the Dutchmen play at Southern Vermont at 7 p.m.
