SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's ice hockey team held off a third period charge by Providence to skate to a 4-2 victory Saturday night at Messa Rink. Senior left-winger
Matt Cook scored the game-winning goal at 2:53 of the third period to move the Dutchmen to 6-4-1, while the Friars go to 2-11-1.
Junior center
Jason Walters paced Union with a season-high two assists and improved his scoring streak to five games. He now is second on the team with eight points (3G-5A).

Brendan Milnamow scored his second goal in as many games when he netted an empty net goal with 56 ticks remaining.

Corey Milan made 27 saves for his sixth win of the season, which equals his win total from a year ago.
Schreiber registered Union's first goal and his first of the season with a shot from the point that found its way through traffic with six seconds remaining in the opening period. Walters had the first assist and Presizniuk moved his scoring streak to three games with the second helper.
Providence almost pulled even in the opening minute of the second period, but Milan kept his pads tight as the puck squeezed underneath before crawling outside of the post.
After regaining possession, the Dutchmen forced the puck into the Providence end and Yanovitch fought off a check and dished to Valery-Trabucco, who fired a slap shot from just atop the left face off circle for his second goal of the season. The point was Valery-Trabucco's fourth in two games and his seventh overall. Walters registered the second assist.
The Friars pulled within one with a goal from junior center John Cavanagh only 19 seconds into the third, but Cook answered with a breakaway goal 2:34 later. The second co-captain forced a turnover and fired a snapshot pass the glove of PC goaltender Justin Gates.
Just as quickly as Union went back up two goals, Providence cut the lead to one with a goal from junior defenseman Mark Fayne 4:05 into the period.
Union held a 29-19 advantage in shots and went 0-1 on the power play. PC went 1-5 with the man advantage.
The Dutchmen hit the road next weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at Brown on Friday, Dec. 5. A 7 p.m. outing at Yale follows on Saturday, Dec. 6. Union then returns home for a Tuesday, Dec. 9 game against American International at 7 p.m.
