Head coach Claudia Asano's group battled hard generating 11 shots in the period and almost broke through on the power-play when freshman forward
Lauren Cromartie was denied at the last second off a rebound in front.
A long outlet pass led to a breakaway and Maine's second goal by with 12 seconds remaining in the period. Senior captain Vanessa Vani potted the goal with an assist by freshman Myriam Croussette.
In the third, the Dutchwomen generated some odd-man rushes, but solid back checking kept the visiting team off the board. Any chances of a comeback slipped away as Union played just over the final two minutes on the penalty kill.
Union finished the game with 19 shots and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Maine had 29 shots and went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
