Moran's pair leads field hockey team to 2-0 win over WPI

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior midfielder Lizzy Moran (Unionville, PA) scored both goals to lead the Union field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the home opener for the Dutchwomen at Frank Bailey Field Saturday. Union is now 2-0 on the young season while WPI fell to 2-2.

Moran scored both her goals in the second half. The Dutchwomen outshot the Engineers, 33-0 and had a 24-1 penalty corner advantage. WPI goalkeeper Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) made eight saves for the contest. Union netminder Liz Stanford (Acton, MA) played the first half for the Dutchwomen while Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) played in the second half.

Moran notched her first of the year at 38:07, just over three minutes into the second half. She took a rebound off a shot from Caroline Tulp (Acton, MA) and scored from just under five yards out to the right of Ray. The junior's second score came at 46:06 on an unassisted goal. She took a loose ball in a crowd from 10 yards out on the left of the net and came in five yards before taking her successful shot.
