Field hockey pulls out 2-1 win at Hamilton

CLINTON, NY -- Kelsey Powers (Naples, ME) scored a goal and added an assist to help lead visiting Union College to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Hamilton College in a Liberty League field hockey game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on Sept. 27.

Powers leads the team with five goals. She gave the Dutchwomen (5-2 overall, 1-2 Liberty) the lead with 6:57 left in regulation when she knocked in a rebound of her own shot, which was saved by Hamilton's Courtney DeMaria.

After a scoreless first half, Sarah Flisnik came off the bench to give the Continentals (1-4, 0-2) a 1-0 advantage with her first collegiate goal. Flisnik stuffed the ball in the back of the cage following a wild scramble in front with 23:31 remaining in the second half. Isabel Zellweger tied the score with her goal on a penalty corner just 5 minutes, 9 seconds later. Powers and Lauren Politz (Goffstown, NY) picked up the assists.

Sarah Rios (Queensbury, NY) made two saves for Union and DeMaria stopped five shots for Hamilton. The Continentals have lost three straight games. The Dutchwomen have won the last four meetings between the programs and lead the all-time series, 18-13-1.

Union will host non-league foe Castleton Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
