#5 Big Red End Union’s Streak With 4-1 Win

SCHENECTADY, NY –
The Union College men's ice hockey team saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-1 Cornell win on Friday at Messa Rink in a nationally televised game. Sophomore forward Adam Presizniuk registered his team-leading 10th goal of the season as Union goes to 11-9-1 and 4-5-0 in ECAC Hockey. Cornell, which is ranked fifth in the country, goes to 12-1-3 and 7-0-2 in the conference.
 
Presizniuk scored the 17th goal of his career during the 6:57 mark of the second period, which pulled Union within one at 2-1. The goal increased his scoring streak to a season-long four games and gave him his 22nd point of the season.
 
Junior center Jason Walters picked up the first assist on the goal for his ninth assist and 15th point of the season. He also extended his scoring streak to four games. Since returning from break, the junior has posted a team-high seven points with three goals and four assists.
 
The second assist went to junior forward Mario Valery-Trabucco, giving him nine helpers on the year and 14 points overall. Like his two other teammate, Valery-Trabucco also moved his scoring streak to four games.
 
Between the pipes, sophomore goaltender Corey Milan turned away 14 tries as his record this season goes to 11-9-1.
 
Cornell sophomore Mike Devin, brother of Union College women's hockey's Molly Kate Devin, broke the scoreless tie 4:40 into the game on the power play. Junior Blake Gallagher and sophomore Riley Nash registered assists.
 
At 9:31 of the first, the Big Red tallied its second power-play goal. This time senior Evan Barlow turned on the red light from junior Colin Greening and Nash.
 
Freshman Sean Collins made it 3-1 with a goal at 7:46 from Gallagher and Nash picked up his third point of the night with an empty netter at 17:52.
 
Junior goaltender Ben Scrivens, who leads the nation in goals-against average and save percentage, turned away 28 Union shots.
 
The Dutchmen went 1-for-7 with the man advantage, while the Big Red went 2-for-4.
 
The final shot total gave Union a 29-18 advantage.
 
Colgate comes to Messa Rink on Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 7 p.m. game.
