Union men's swimming & diving team rolls past RPI, 164-77

SCHENECTADY, NY -- This week's Liberty League Co-Men's Swimmer of the Week, Steve Schapp, led the Dutchmen to a 164-77 victory over RPI Friday at the Alumni Gym Pool.  He won the 200 free and 100 free. Brian Scarlett also had a big day with victories in the 100 back and 200 individual medley. The women also had a dominating win, 165.5-76.5.

Ian Drillinger had a score of 237.30 to win the three meter dive and his 230.93 won the one meter dive. Other winners were Billy Breitweiser in the 1000 free at 10:31.16, and Todd Herman in the 50 free at 22.58. Lucas Tiziani had a timeo f 53.49 for first in the 100 fly, Boyd clocked at 1:02.58 to take the 100 breaststroke. Union's 200 free relay team of Michael Mooney, Alex Connell, Tiziani and Herman won with a time of 1:30.87.

Mary Kate Baumann won two swimming events and Meredith Nearpass was the victor of both diving competitions. Baumann was the winner of the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:58.23, and the 200 free with a time of 2:00.13. Nearpass was the winner of the one meter dive with a score of 209.55, and also took the three meter dive, scoring 201.68. Other highlights for the women's team included the performance of Kaleigh Ahearn. She joined Kirstin Burdett, Andrea Marois and Suzanne Foley with a win in the 200 medley relay at 1:54.62. Ahearn won the 50 free at 25.62, and later joined Erica Fugger, Priscilla Wright and Lexi Bascom for a win int he 200 free at 1:43.28.

In the 100 free, Priscilla Wright touched at 55.89 for first place, and Annora Brennan won for Union with a time of 2:16.17 in the 200 back. Taylor Connolly had a time of 5:29.54 to win the 500 free for the Dutchwomen. 

Union closes our a string of four straight home meets on January 24, when the Dutchmen and Dutchwomen host Middlebury at 2 p.m.
