SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's ice hockey team returns to Messa Rink for a four-game home stand, beginning this weekend with games against St. Lawrence (Friday at 7 p.m.) and against Clarkson (Saturday at 4 p.m.). The Dutchwomen only have 10 games remaining in their season and after next weekend's games against Harvard and Dartmouth, the team only has two home outings remaining.
The season-long watch of if and when senior goaltender
Lundy Day would become Union's all-time career saves leader has come to an end. After making 47 saves at Cornell, Day only needed nine for the record and achieved the mark during the first period at Colgate. She now stands with 1,918 career stops.
Day, who joined the team prior to the 2007-08 season, passed Amanda Hanson's 1,896 saves (2003-07).
She now eyes another record. Her .905 career save percentage places her second behind Victoria Elkins' .909 mark in 39 games (2000-01).
Hoffman leads the team with five goals, while Koetteritz is second with four tallies. Calahan has produced a team-best six assists and Gentile is behind her with five helpers. Hoffman, Koetteritz and Gentile are tied for the team lead among active players with two power-play goals each. Hoffman and Cromartie each have game-winning markers.
Last time out, the Dutchwomen traveled to Cornell on Friday for a 3-0 loss and to Colgate on Saturday for a 3-1 setback. Day posted 47 saves at Cornell and 31 stops at Colgate. The Dutchwomen received a goal from Hoffman on the power play with only five seconds remaining on a play set up by Gentile and Cromartie on Saturday.
St. Lawrence is winners of three of its last four games and is coming off victories against Brown (3-2) and Yale (4-0) last weekend. This season, the team has outscored its opponents, 72-45. Leading the offensive effort is senior Carson Duggan, who has a team-best 15 goals, including five on the power play, and 25 points. She has also registered 10 assists. Junior Brittony Chartier has seen all the action in goal, posting a 14-5-3 record with a 1.91 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.
Clarkson is on a five-game unbeaten streak, including four wins during that span. The team is coming off wins at Yale (4-1) and Brown (2-1). Three of the conference's top four scorers are on the Clarkson roster. Senior forward Marie-Jo Gaudet leads the way with 32 points, including 15 goals and 17 assists. In the second spot is freshman forward Juana Baribeau with 26 points, 15 goals and 11 assists. Junior forward Britney Selina rounds out the group in fourth in ECACH with four goals, 21 assists and 25 points.
