CLINTON, NY -- The Union men's and women's swimming & diving teams were both victorious in a meet at Hamilton College Saturday. The Dutchmen won by a score of 136-103, while the Dutchwomen downed the Continentals, 133-110. Lucas Tiziani and Steve Schapp were some of the Dutchmen who provided highlights while Mary Kate Baumann had a big day for the Dutchwomen.
Tiziani had the second leg for the winning 400 medley relay team. He joined Brian Scarlett, Alex Boyd and Chris Heske for a time of 3:37.26. Tiziani wont he 200 fly with a time of 1:58.48. Schapp was first in the 1650 free at 17:20.18, and also won the 500 free at 4:51.42. Drillinger took the top honors in both the three meter dive (with a score of 264.20) and one meter competition (248.30). The 200 free relay team was won by Union's Kevin Jung, Heske, Schapp and Herman at 1:27.97.
Other men's winners for Union included Todd Herman in the 50 free (at 20.04), and Brian Scarlett in the 200 back at 2:00.12. Boyd was first in the 200 breastsroke at 2:15.98.
Baumann opened the day leading the 400 medley relay winning squad that included Andrea Marois, Kaleigh Ahern and Suzanne Foley at 4:08.31. Baumann touched at 2:01.00 to take first in the 200 free and her time of 5:23.04 won the 500 free. Kirstin Burdett had a clocking of 2:15.97 as Union won the 200 individual medley, and Ahern's time of 2:32.53 won the 200 breaststroke. Meredith Nearpass scored a total of 222.40 for first in the three meter dive.
Union's 200 free relay team of Priscilla Wright, Erica Fugger, Suzanne Foley and Burdett won at 1:42.03.
Union's next meet is the final home meet of the season, Saturday, February 7 at 2 p.m. against Ithaca at the Alumni Gym Pool.
