SCHENECTADY, NY --
The Union College men's ice hockey team's comeback fell short as the team skated to a 3-1 setback at #19 St. Cloud on Saturday at the National Hockey Center. Junior defenseman Brock Matheson picked up the goal for the Dutchmen, who see their unbeaten streak end at three games with a 2-1-1 record. The win is the first of the year for the Huskies, who go to 1-2-1.

Freshman Keith Kinkaid made his collegiate debut between the pipes for the Dutchmen, making 30 stops.

Playing in their second game against the Dutchmen in as many days, the Huskies used three power-play goals by three different players. Freshman goaltender Mike Lee turned away 24 shots for his first career victory.

After falling behind 2-0, junior defenseman Brock Matheson registered Union's first tally after sophomore forward Brian Yanovitch had his shot bounce off the chest of Lee at 9:38 of the second. The sophomore grabbed the rebound, swung around the net and found Matheson at the point. Junior forward John Simpson earned the second assist, extending his scoring streak to four games. Yanovitch earned his fourth point of the season and moved his scoring streak to three games. For Matheson, the goal was his second of the season and third of his career.

For the second straight night, the Huskies jumped out to a quick start. Senior defenseman Craig Gaudet tallied his first goal of the season with a shot from the point with the man advantage at 3:36. Freshman forward Ben Hanowski and sophomore forward Jared Festler each earned assists.

Another power-play tally, this time at 14:18 of the first with a semi-power-play goal by sophomore forward Travis Novak made it 2-0.

At 10:19 of the third, Huskies junior forward Garrett Roe registered is 36th career goal with a one-timer in the slot.

Union returns to Messa Rink on Friday, Oct. 13 for a 7 p.m. contest against American International. The game marks the beginning of a five-game homestead. Tickets are available at UnionAthleticsTickets.com
