SCHENECTADY, NY -- Freshman forward Wayne Simpson registered his first career goal, the game-winner, helping Union to a 4-2 victory against American International on Friday Night at Messa Rink. Simpson's line, which consists of his brother John and sophomore forward Brian Yanovitch, had a hand in two of the Dutchmen's goals as the trio continues leading the team in points. John Simpson is first with seven points, while Wayne Simpson and Yanovitch are tied for second with five points.

The line produced the second goal of the game as John Simpson raced down the right side. He fed to his brother Wayne, who was stopped on the doorstep. After a scrum in front, Yanovitch picked up the rebound and roofed it for his third goal of the season and fifth point in four games.

The multi-point games are the second for all three and John Simpson and Yanovitch extended their scoring streaks to five and four games, respectively.

The Dutchmen struck first 7:33 into the game when junior forward Adam Presizniuk, who is also tied for second on the team with five points, scored his third goal of the season. Senior forward Jason Walters' leg work from behind the net generated a surge down low as he cut back on one AIC defender. He caught goaltender Dan Ramirez going one way and found Presizniuk just below the right face-off circle for a wide-open net. Walters picked up his second assist. Senior forward Mario Valery-Trabucco earned the second assist, his third of the season.

A 5-on-3 power play led to AIC cracking the scoreboard at 7:48, cutingt Union's lead in half. Adam Pleskach was credited with the goal after picking up a rebound in the crease. His linemates Tom Mele and Richard Leitner each had assists on the play.

A one-timer just right of the slot, by Leitner at 15:54 tied the game at two. Pleskach centered the puck form the right half wall, giving him and Leitner their second points of the night.

A empty-net goal by Stephane Boileau with 13 ticks made it 4-2.

Junior goaltender Corey Milan extended his unbeaten streak to four games as he became the first Union goaltender since Kris Mayotte '06 in 2002-03 to begin a season 3-0-1. Milan made 23 save for his 28th career victory, moving him past Mayotte for sole possession of third place on Union's all-time wins list.

At the other end, Dan Ramirez made 31 start in the Yellow Jackets season-opening contest.

The Dutchmen are back in action against another Atlantic Hockey opponent when Sacred Heart comes to Messa Rink tomorrow at 7 p.m. The contest is part of Armed Services Appreciation and Union Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend.
