With six games in the record book, the Union College women's ice hockey team will have another record to start this weekend as the Dutchwomen opens their ECAC Hockey schedule beginning Friday at Quinnipiac followed by Princeton the next day. Faceoff is at 7 p.m., and 4 p.m., respectively. Fans can catch the game either through live stats or by live video streaming through their opponents Web sites.

Union begins a stretch of six ECACH games, four of them at home following the game at Princeton. The Dutchwomen will look to get a quick jump off the gate to gain control their own destiny within the conference.

Sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman has kept herself in the conference's top 10 in points and assists. After scoring her second goal on the season, Hoffman moves to eighth in the points category. She is also eighth in assists.

One of the Dutchwomen's captains, senior defenseman Jackie Koetteritz, is the ECACH's top defenseman, scoring three goals, two of them on power play. She leads all defensemen in both categories. Eleven other defensemen each have a goal.

But the Dutchwomen will be facing two teams each with a different look. Starting with Quinnipiac, 12 players are returning and 14 players are newcomers. Two of those newcomers, freshmen forward Brittany Lyons and Heather Hughes each hove two goals in six games. Lyons has also notched an assist which give her the lead in points. Another newcomer is goaltender Victoria Vigilanti. Vigilanti has played five games this season and has the third best record in both goals against average and save percentage in the conference.

Princeton opened its 2009-10 season last weekend at Vermont, where they split the two-game series. Picked to finish fourth in the ECACH Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Tigers have 14 players returning, four of them are seniors while three are juniors.

However, the Tigers are loaded with young players, seven are sophomores and five are freshmen. Sophomore defenseman Sasha Sherry and senior forward Melanie Wallace are two key players returning this season. Last season, both players along with former Tiger Christine Foster led the team with 22 points. Wallace led the team in assists with 16.

The Tigers also have to young goaltenders this season, sophomore Rachel Weber and freshman Cassie Seguin. Both are replacing former goalie Kristen Young, who played 31 games last season and carried a record of 18-11-2.
