BOSTON, MA -- Sophomore
Eve Richards was named to the Tufts Invitational All-Tournament Team for the Union volleyball team. Richard helped lead the Dutchwomen during the weekend, as Union finished the four match weekend with an 11-11 record.
The Dutchwomen lost to Tufts Friday, 25-23, 25-15 and 25-14, and was defeated by Wellesley, 25-20, 25-18, 15-25 and 25-19. Saturday, the Dutchwomen downed Bridgewater State by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 26-28 and 27-25, and finished tourney play with a loss to MIT (25-18, 25-16 and 25-17).
In the Tufts match, Richards had a team high seven kills along with six digs, and
Rachel Ormsby recorded five kills and four digs.
Veronica Mynders led the Union defensive effort with 12 digs and Erica VanValkenburg dished out 24 assists. Richards had 10 digs and nine kills against Wellesley and Mynders posted 23 digs.
Against Bridgewater State, Richards had 15 digs with 13 kills, and Mynders had a season high 35 digs. VanValkenburg had a tourney best 40 assists and Ormsby added five blocks to her 10 kills.
Bridget Little aided the victory with seven blocks. Richards closed out tourney play with 13 digs and four kills against MIT, and Little had four kills with a pair of blocks.
Union returns home to host the Interleague Volleyball Challenge Friday and Saturday. Participating teams along with the Dutchwomen are Ithaca, Lasell, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Potsdam and Skidmore.
