SCHENECTADY, NY -- Three Union College fall sport student-athletes were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team. Women's soccer senior
Allison Cuozzo and football senior
John Peters were named to their respective sport first teams, while volleyball junior
Bridget Little was selected to the Third Team. Cuozzo and Peters are now both eligible for the All-American team. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Cuozzo had a term GPA of 4.00 in Spanish. She had seven goals and three assists for 17 points for the 11-7 Dutchwomen. She was tied for sixth in the Liberty League for goals and was fourth in points. She helped lead Union to a league-best 50 goals and a 2.94 goals-per-game average. A three sport star athlete in soccer, lacrosse and track and field, Cuozzo has been a six-time Liberty League All-Academic Selection and has been named to the Dean's List every term. Cuozzo serves as the President of Union College's Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Peters had a term GPA of 4.00 in Mathematics and Chemistry. A co-captain this year, he has started at linebacker for the 6-2 Dutchmen, who are the only undefeated team in the Liberty League (5-0). He has led the league in tackles througout the season, and enters the November 7 game with 101 tackles, including seven for losses, and five pass break ups. He won three straight Defensive Player of the Week awards and an ECAC award. His 22 tackles at Rochester tied his own school record. Peters received the Henle Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship, and he was the final Union nominee for Goldwater Scholarship. He was also awarded the Davenport Summer Research Fellowship to conduct organic chemistry research.
Little had a term GPA of 3.77 in Mechanical Engineering. She has helped lead Union to a 20-16 season entering the Liberty League Championship Tournament. She leads the team with 120 blocks, has 193 kills, and 31 digs. She also leads the team in block assists with 97. Little ranks eighth all time at Union in career blocks per game. She has been a member of the Liberty League All-Academic Team from 2007-09. Little serves as a volunteer for UCare Day and also for youth club volleyball programs. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering society, and also is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and the Biomedical Engineering Society. Last year, Little helped lead Union to 36 wins and an NCAA bid, with a team that posted the most wins of any athletic team in school history since the first team sporting event in 1860.
