SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Eight members of the Union College football team was recognized for their play on the field and success in the classroom with spots on the 2025 Academic All-District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday.
Five players - seniors
Guy Bellingrath,
Cam Fries and
Ryan Mulderig; and juniors
Jordan Black and
Alex Carucci - were all recognized for the second straight season, while sophomores
Jack Beacham,
Bryan Ermshar and
Francesco Pileggi all earned the honor for the first time.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of or start at least 66 percent of an institution's games, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. All Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Black earned All-Liberty League honorable mention in his first full season on the defensive line as a junior, starting all 11 games and ranking top-two on the team in sacks (4.5) and tackles for loss (10.5) while finishing third on the squad overall with 61 tackles. He was joined on the honorable mention list by Beacham, who started all 11 games on the offensive line as a sophomore, and Pileggi, who ranked eighth in the Liberty League in scoring after connecting on 6-of-7 field-goal attempts and 32-of-35 extra-point tries.
Ermshar and Fries were recognized after contributing on the offensive side of the ball in 2025. Fries started all 11 games at tight end during his senior season, catching 12 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns while also playing a role in the team's strong offensive line performance alongside Ermshar, who started 10 of his 11 appearances on the line for the Garnet Chargers in his first season as a key member of the line. Along with Beacham, Union's first-string offensive line allowed only six sacks in 10 regular-season games.
Bellingrath and Carucci both played key roles in the defensive backfield for the Garnet Chargers on the season. Carucci played in 10 games, breaking up three passes and making 10 tackles, while Bellingrath also made 10 appearances and recorded four tackles.
Mulderig joined Pileggi as special teams performers to receive Academic All-District honors after serving as the team's kickoff specialist for the third straight season and averaging over 60.8 yards per boot.
With the eight honorees, Union student-athletes have now earned 294 Academic All-District honors since 2001. The football team leads all Union programs with 50 honorees over that time.
