Dutchwomen Begins Four-Game Homestand This Weekend

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After completing a three-game road trip, the Union College women's ice hockey team (2-6-0, 0-2-0 ECACH) begins the month of November returning home to begin a four-game homestand starting with No. 10 Cornell (2-2-0, 2-0-0 ECACH) on Friday at 3 p.m., and Colgate (1-6-1, 0-1-1 ECACH) the next day at 2:30 p.m. Fans who can't make the two games can follow the game through live video or live stats.

The Dutchwomen made a strong performance last Saturday at Princeton. Three players earned their first points on either their career or on the season. Starting with freshman forward Rhianna Kurio, who scored her first career goal in 16 seconds to give the Dutchwomen the lead. Sophomore forward Lauren Cromartie scored her first goal on the season with help from Kurio and sophomore defenseman Kayleigh Melia, who notched her first career assist.

Although she had a slow start early in the season, sophomore forward Émilie Arseneault has scored three goals in five games, tying senior defenseman Jackie Koetteritz. Junior forward Lauren Hoffman continues extending her team-leading points. After assisting Arseneault's goal at Princeton, Hoffman has produced seven points in six goals, scoring two goals and recording a career-high of five assists.

About No. 10 Cornell

Like Union, Cornell also opened its' ECAC Hockey schedule last weekend, defeating Dartmouth 3-0 on Oct. 30 and Harvard 4-3 on the following day. Ranked 10th in the nation by the USCHO, Cornell opened the regular season hosting top-ranked Mercyhurst at home. Mercyhurst swept the Big Red in the two-game series.

Cornell will be playing this season without leading scorer Rebecca Johnston and Brianne Jenner, both of whom are spending the season with Team Canada in preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Picked to finish seventh in the ECACH Coaches' Preseason Poll, Cornell will look to sophomore Catherine White to produce the Big Red offensively. White led the team last season in assists (26) and was second in goals (18) last season.

About Colgate

Colgate opened conference play last weekend with a 1-2 loss to Harvard on Oct. 30 and a 5-5 tie against Dartmouth the following day. The Raiders were picked to finish eighth in the conference in the ECACH Coaches' Preseason Poll.

Seniors Katie Stewart and Evan Minnick are leading the Raiders in points with each having six. Senior Ali Edell and junior Jessi Waters each have five points this season. Edell has one goal and four assists while Waters has recorded five assists. Freshman Brittany Phillips already has three goals this season, just one shy behind Minnick.

 

Before facing the Dutchwomen on Saturday, Colgate will face RPI the day before at 2:30 p.m.
